Laura has been a practicing attorney for over 30 years; she also holds a prestigious CPCU designation. After a private litigation career focused on corporate representation and contracts, she moved into the insurance field. She brings expertise in insurance both property casualty insurance and legal insurance. She has worked for national corporations and worked claims from the ground up starting with initial investigations, evaluations negotiation, mediation and resolution. She has hired and supervised attorney panels across the nation both for property casualty insurance and for legal insurance.
Laura has also been involved teaching college courses for multiple institutions including courses in business, business and medical ethics, along with courses ranging from insurance law to legal writing. She has also been involved in course creation on the collegiate level.
A graduate of Drake University and Drake University Law school, Laura has also served on the Iowa State Ethics Board hearing cases involving attorney ethics complaints and making recommendations to the Iowa Supreme Court on those cases.
Laura’s status as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) is noteworthy, because it designates her as a certified professional in property-casualty insurance risk and risk management. The title is administered and granted by The Institutes, the premier risk and insurance education organization. Achieving the CPCU designation requires completion of eight rigorous academic courses covering key focus areas: risk management, insurance operations, business law, finance and accounting, property insurance, and liability insurance.
Like all CPCU designees, Laura was required to pass a professional examination on each of the eight subject areas, plus personal and commercial insurance, as well as one ethics course. CPCU designation holders are also bound by a Professional Code of Ethics, and must satisfy educational and experience requirements.
